Bobbi and Bobby...

Bobby Sherman and Bobbi in Manitowoc, WisconsinMy Birthday Evening with Bobby!
(okay, my two minutes!)

I grew up with Bobby Sherman plastered all over my bedroom walls, dreaming of him and listening to his albums! Oh what a doll he was. Well, about 30 years later, Bobby Sherman is touring with the Teen Idol Tour (and is still a doll!) and in February 2001 was going to be in Manitowoc WI, an hour from where I live - so my girlfriend and I buy tickets the moment they go on sale and get seats in the fourth row - center! We can't believe how lucky we were! No one else we worked with had a clue who Bobby Sherman was and for weeks before the concert we are acting like little schoolgirls and they of course thought we were crazy.

And, the concert in Manitowoc happened to be on February 10th, which was my 42nd birthday! Could this not get any better? Well, yes it did! I was able to get a pass for the Meet & Greet in Manitowoc along with my girlfriend! We found this out just a few days before the concert and went nuts! We were finally going to meet our teen idol! We could not believe it!

When we got to Manitowoc we checked into our hotel and upon arriving met Ginny (who we had met online during our Bobby searching) and her friends, and the other Bobby groupies! We went to the Bobby Luncheon and met all the other fun fans!

Finally, it was time for the concert. We were like silly schoolgirls not sure what to wear! It was so dumb, but we were so excited! We got to the concert and got taken backstage to wait for Bobby's arrival. There were about 6 or 7 other "girls" waiting too. Everyone had their Bobby story and we all had Bobby items for him to sign. Then all of a sudden in walked Bobby and everyone (or just me, I don't know for sure!) shrieked! Here he was in his silvery sequin shirt and black leather pants! Happy Birthday to me!

I just could not even believe I was this close to him! He met the others, took time to talk to them, signed items they had, had his picture taken with each of them, and finally, it was my turn! He signed my book and a 45 record jacket I had brought along. (Yes, over the years I still had some of his 45's!) He put his arm around me for pictures and I was blabbering like an idiot. I remember telling him I had just read his book last week and fell in love with him all over again! He said something like, that's so sweet. Everyone was reminding me to tell him it was my birthday (hoping I'd get a kiss), but I don't know if I ever remembered to tell him. I know I didn't get a birthday kiss.  :-( So I guess he still owes me one!

Then it was over and he moved on...and we were quickly whisked from the back, all giggling like little schoolgirls, and were seated for the concert. Once he came out and started singing it was wonderful! It brought back excellent adolescent memories. And thanks to Bobby for the Meet & Greet we now have some adult memories of him too! The concert of course was over too soon!

P.S. I did offer to take him to a Packers game, but so far have not heard from him. Bobby, the offer still stands!
