Debbie L. and Bobby...

Bobby Sherman and Debbie L. in ChicagoThe dreams of my sister and I came true in July 2000 when we were able to meet Bobby.  I will never forget that moment as long as I live.  When we were growing up, we used to listen to Bobby's records, watch Here Come the Brides and dream about being the one to marry Bobby.  As life goes on, you tend to lose track of the heart throbs that you grew up with but always wonder what happened to them.

The Teen Idols Tour came to town, Bobby included.  We were ecstatic waiting for his arrival.  When he walked through the audience, I thought I was going to faint dead away.  Bobby came through the audience and I went up and gave him a kiss on the cheek.  Man, talk about a dream come true.  I know I was at the concert but I don't remember too much of it as I was in a fog at that point.  The tour was due to come back to Chicago later that year but was cancelled.  I never thought I would see Bobby again.

In early 2000, I saw the announcement of the Teen Idols Tour coming back to Chicago.  I entered a contest through his website to win a backstage pass for my sister to meet him.  To my surprise, we both won backstage passes.  The day came and we were ready with birthday presents, things for Bobby to autograph and our cameras.   Security came to get us, along with 5 or 6 other ladies that won backstage passes too.  We went down the hall, entered a room and there stood Bobby with a huge smile on his face.  I started to cry and so did my sister.  She had to turn away so she could get her breath back.  The aroma of Polo filled the air.  I was trying not to hyperventilate at this point.  We sort of stood back looking while he talked to other fans.

My turn finally came.  I was shaking like a leaf but Bobby made me feel very at ease.  He signed autographs and took pictures with us.  He was exactly as I thought he would be...handsome, sparkling eyes and one of the nicest people in the world.  All too soon our time with Bobby was over but it was time for the concert.  We had front row seats which made the day even better.  Bobby came through the audience and the tears started to flow again.  I remember more of this concert than the first one but some of it is still a blur.

I can't believe that we got to meet Bobby.  It was such a special moment that I know will live in my memory for years to come.

I don't know when I will see Bobby again, but I hope to some day.
