Rhonda and Bobby...

Bobby Sherman and Rhonda at the Rialto Car ShowThe day finally arrived.  I was going to meet Bobby Sherman for the first time at the Rialto Car Show.

After only four hours of sleep, I showed up on my brother's (Terry) doorstep at 7 am Saturday morning. We went out for coffee and muffins, then it was off to the car show. I didn't know what time Bobby was supposed to arrive, I didn't want to miss any of it, and so we got there around 9 am. When we drove up, we saw that there was already quite a few cars set up for the show. We walked around looking at them and hung out for what seemed like an eternity. After a while the DJ from KOLA announced that Bobby Sherman would be stopping by around 11:30 am. Only one and a half more hours to go. I looked at Terry and he just smiled. I asked him if he wanted to go back to his house since he was only twenty minutes away.  He said it was up to me.  I opted to stay put.   About an hour later, I noticed Fred Miller walking around the parking lot talking with a few of the fans.  I have never met him, but I recognized him from pictures on various web sites.  Little by little more people showed up.  All of a sudden I grabbed Terry by the arm and said, there's Bobby!  We just stood there, watching everyone crowd in around him. I told Terry that we should just wait here until Bobby makes his way toward the front where the DJ was standing.  That lasted about two seconds. I grabbed Terry by the hand and said let's go.

We made our way toward the crowd.  The closer we got the more I had to tell myself to calm down.  I was about ready to jump out of my skin.  There he was, in the flesh, just two feet away.  I was smiling so big; I thought the muscles in my face were going to start cramping up on me.  I had brought my "Remembering You" book for Bobby to sign.  I felt so shy as I stood there staring at him.  I watched as other people went up to talk with him.  A lady was standing next to me and noticed my book.  She asked me what it was.  I showed it to her and she took one look at the cover and said, very quietly, oh my, oh my, over and over.  I asked what was wrong and she said that picture, he's so gorgeous.  I thought for a minute she was going to faint.  She then put her hand on my back, gave me a little shove toward Bobby and said, "Get up there."  Just then Bobby had finished taking a picture with someone else and turned toward me.  My mind went blank; I looked down at the book and said would you sign this?  He asked my name and proceeded to write.  When he finished, I asked if I could get a picture with him.   He handed the book back to me and looked up to find the person taking the picture.   I thanked him and them someone else moved in.  I will always be grateful for the lady who gave me the little shove.

I walked over to my brother and he handed me the camera.  I tried to take some pictures but my hands were shaking so much, I gave the camera back to Terry and told him to get as many shots of Bobby as possible.  I felt kind of numb.  Like I was in a dream.  As I looked around I recognized a couple of the fans and went over to introduce myself.  I was enjoying looking at all different things people brought to have Bobby sign.  Toward the end everyone gathered around Bobby for a group shot.   Then Bobby, along with Fred, got into his car and reminded all of us to be safe and drove off.  What a day!

Terry and I went to lunch with some of the Bobby Babes and had a great time getting to know them.  What a great bunch of ladies.  I can hardly wait till the next Bobby event.
