LAPD/Celebrity Golf Tournament
LAPD's Finest
I always said I'd die if I ever saw Bobby in his LAPD uniform. Well, I'm happy to report that I survived...barely! We arrived at the golf course and found ourselves surrounded by lots of hot cops but, of course, we were in pursuit of the hottest cop of all. It's always easy at concerts to spot Bobby...the music and a spotlight on someone coming down the aisle in a sparkly shirt is generally a dead giveaway, even with my poor eyesight. This was a little more of a challenge since Bobby was dressed exactly the same as hundreds of other officers. But between Debra, Chris, Charlyn, Wendy, Helyn, Kathy, Ashley, Sarah and myself, we knew we'd track him down. It must have been fate because we managed to position ourselves in just the right spot to see him arrive and eagle-eye Wendy was the first to spot him. "There's Bobby"!! It had been a gloomy, chilly day, but as soon as Bobby arrived, it suddenly got a lot warmer and brighter!! LOL!! Bobby didn't see us right away and scurried off into a tent, I assume to check in, with us in hot pursuit. We got into position and waited. Finally, Bobby emerged from the tent and we pounced! I managed to be in front and was able to greet Bobby first. No, I didn't have to elbow or step over anyone to get to him...not that I'm above that!! LOL!! But in this relaxed setting, it wasn't necessary. Bobby walked right towards us and into my outstretched arms. I gave him a long hug and told him how happy I was to see him. I didn't tell him this, but like a lot of you have told me, ever since the announcement, I've had a tremendous urge to give him a great big hug. It really felt good to finally do it and I wish the hug could have been even longer. I don't know if it did anything for him, but it did a lot for me. I didn't want to let go, but knowing the girls waiting behind me would kick my butt if I didn't, I stepped away. Of course, this gave me the opportunity to get behind him and take a couple butt shots...not for myself, of course, but I know you guys like it!! LOL!! It was then that I was able to really check him out in his uniform. He looked spiffy!! That was the word I kept thinking. Everything was neatly pressed, shoes shined, hair perfect except for that little piece of hair that always hangs down on his forehead. Lord, I hope he never gets that thing under control...sooooo sexy!! All of us got our chance to say hi and pose with Bobby, then others noticed this crowd around him and from that point on, he was surrounded. Boy, we really wanted to keep him to ourselves and talk to him forever like we were able to in Rialto, but since he had two armed LAPD officers guarding him, we decided to share. You think Ward is intimidating? Picture him in a uniform with a gun and you'll back off too!! LOL!! Actually, I'm just kidding. The officers were very nice and the very large male officers seemed to get quite a kick out of the fact that I was taking butt pictures!! Eventually Bobby moved along signing autographs and taking pictures with lots of fans along the way. We tailed him for awhile and even passed him up at one point. Suddenly we realized he was following us! When I saw him, I joked to him, "Hey, are you following us? Every time we turn around, you're there!!"
As much as we would have loved to have stuck with him the whole time, we decided to give him a break and check out some of the other stars who were there at the tournament. After all, Bobby was supposed to be there all day. Obviously, Bobby was the main thing we were there to see...I mean, I didn't fly half way across the country to see Chad Everett, but I was pretty jazzed about seeing him too. After much searching, we finally caught up with him. He looks pretty good...I think. I say "I think" because he was wearing sunglasses and a hat, but from what we could see, Dr. Gannon has aged pretty well!! LOL!! He was very friendly and signed autographs and took pictures with us. We also met Dick Van Patten, Craig T. Nelson, Meat Loaf, Joe Pesci, Ed Marinaro, and Gordon Clapp. That was all very exciting, but we wanted to get back to Bobby. So, we headed back. On our way, we noticed the two officers who had been guarding him. I went over to them and asked if Bobby had given them the slip. They informed me that Bobby was gone already!! OH NO!! See, you give the guy a little space and he takes advantage and ditches us!! LOL!! Just kidding, Bobby!! We had accomplished our mission...to let him know how much we, and all of his fans, love and care about him.
The rest of the weekend was fantastic thanks to two special people and their Southern hospitality...Southern California and they are both actually from the South too!! LOL!! Our main babysitter for the weekend was sweet Debra. She took us everywhere we wanted to go and even had a birthday party for Chris on Saturday! She always goes waaaaay out of her way for us and just saying thank you isn't nearly enough. Debra, you are one of the sweetest, most giving and genuine people I've ever met...a real angel. But even angels have to work for a living, so our babysitter on Friday was Debbie A...another Southerner. She was sweet enough to pick us up, take us to our hotel and then back to her beautiful house where we were able to pick lemons and oranges from her trees!! I know that means nothing to you Californians, but to a Midwesterner, that was tooooo cool!! And we were even able to smuggle them past security at the airport!! LOL!! Debbie, you're a doll, and I hope I didn't make you gain 5 pounds with that Snicker cake on Sunday!!
Another exciting thing we did was visit Fred Miller's firehouse. Chris, Debra and I had been over at the North Hollywood Festival visiting Debbie A. where she was working that weekend (which is why the poor baby missed seeing Bobby on Saturday), and Fred's firehouse is within walking distance. So, we decided to surprise him. Well, the surprise was on us...Fred wasn't working that day. But an incredibly cute, young fireman named Mike volunteered to show us around, and even let us get into the fire truck!! We were disappointed that we missed Fred...but did I mention how incredibly cute Mike was?!?!? LOL!!
So, that was our Bobby weekend. Sure wish we could have seen him more, but even being able to spend 10 minutes with him was worth the airfare!!
