LAPD/Celebrity Golf Tournament 2003
Bobby's Plumb Full of Delish...or something like that
Debra, Debbie A., Chris, her daughter and I arrived at the golf course at about 9:30 planning to hook up with Rhonda and then search for "the man". But when we got there, we found that Rhonda had already seen Bobby!! He beat us there!! Maybe he couldn't sleep the night before because of the anticipation of seeing us...could that be possible?!?! LOL!! Okay, probably not, but I know WE were very jazzed about seeing Bobby after seven loooooooooooooong months. Rhonda pointed us to the area that she had seen Bobby in and, of course, we scurried over there. Although Bobby ALWAYS stands out in a crowd, I must admit finding him in a sea of other LAPD officers all dressed exactly the same isn't the easiest thing in the world for me. Luckily, someone else spotted him. I don't know, is it possible that he's gotten even cuter since becoming a Captain?!?! Yeah, you're right, he couldn't be any cuter!! LOL!! He looked so handsome and happy and cute and adorable and precious and sweet...um...where was I? Oh yeah, we all gathered around Captain Bobby and started a little chit chat and then Chris announced she wasn't shy and was the first to approach and hug him!! Me, being the shy little wallflower I am (uh huh), went second. When I was hugging him, I felt that his ears were cold and told him so. He claimed it was my cheek that was cold!! Not likely...when I'm around Bobby, NOTHING is cold on me!! LOL!! I then told him that seeing him twice a year wasn't nearly enough...a not so subtle hint that we need to see him more often.
I then tried to finally answer the mystery of Goody Galum-Shus. I said to him..."at the risk of getting smacked, I'm going to ask you to try to remember something from nearly 40 years ago." I'm sure he was afraid of what I might ask him!! LOL!! But I told him about the project we had done with typing all the lyrics to his songs and that there was one song that is still in question. Bad news...he didn't remember!! He said he thought "delish" was right, but couldn't swear to "plumb full of". Well, if nothing else, hopefully he'll be curious enough about the lyrics and check it out and MAYBE he'll let us know.
Then someone brought up the subject of his promotion, and I can't remember who asked him if he'd be getting stripes on his sleeve. He said that he doesn't get stripes...he gets bars for his collar, but hadn't gotten them yet. We all congratulated him on his promotion. I know I'm probably getting the order of this all wrong, but the fact that I can remember half of what happened is surprising in itself!! I tend to walk away from the man wondering what it was that we talked about!! LOL!! But at some point, I said that I hadn't brought him cards and letters from everyone like I did in Rialto because I knew he couldn't carry a bunch of stuff. I told him what I had for him this time he could fold up and put in his pocket. I then took out the page of messages from all of you...and there were a BUNCH of them!! I explained that I limited everyone to 25 words or less to tell him how much they loved and missed him. He looked quite pleased and that was even before I told him the back of the page was filled too!! He flipped it over and gave a big smile...you know, one of those smiles that just lights up his whole face!! Oh, that smile just melts my heart!! I told him that there were so many of you (and yes, I mentioned some names!!) that would have loved to have been there, but couldn't. He read a few of the messages and then folded it up and put it close to his heart...in his back pocket!!! LOL!!!
After quite a bit of time talking, hugging, kissing...and not ALL by me (LOL!!), Bobby said he had some business to take care of, which was understandable because he was also on duty that day. So, as much as we hated to let him go, we did. Some time after that, Charlyn, her family, Wendy, Kathy and Nancy FINALLY arrived. Darn it all...we'll just have to find Bobby again so they can see him!! LOL!! This would be Rhonda's THIRD Bobby encounter of the day and I'm fairly sure she didn't mind!! Luckily, he hadn't left yet...boy, wouldn't they have been upset after such a long drive!! So, we tracked down Bobby again. I think it was about that time that we found a man dressed as "Wyatt Earp" walking around...or maybe he found us. While we were all talking to Bobby again, Wyatt, a retired LAPD officer, latched onto us. He was funny at first, and I GUESS I did kind of encourage him a bit by asking him if that was a gun in his pocket or was he just happy to see me!! Shame on me!! But after a while I just wanted to get back to Bobby and Wyatt wouldn't let me go. I kept looking over at sweet Bobby thinking, gee, I didn't come 1,500 miles to schmooze with Wyatt Earp!!! But no one would rescue me!!! THANKS A HEAP LADIES!!! When I was just about ready to kick him in the kneecaps and run, he finally decided it was time to move along. Thank goodness...back to Bobby!!
Poor Wendy realized she didn't have pictures of all of us with Bobby, so even though it was a major hardship for us, we just HAD to pose with Bobby again!! LOL!! Anything for you, Wendy!! Again, we knew it was time to give Bobby a chance to meet with the other fans that were gathering around, so we decided to give him some space. But we made him promise not to leave without saying goodbye!! LOL!! Oh sure, he's going to track us down no matter where we were on the golf course...so needless to say, we didn't see him before he left. But that was okay. We had already spent more time with him than I think any of us expected and certainly a lot more than last year. Although you can never get enough Bobby, we were all very happy!! Still are!! Anyone who has ever been around him knows that the "Bobby high" lasts for quite some time. But I warn you Bobby, I'll be needing a Bobby booster shot VERY soon!! Again, a not so subtle hint!! LOL!!
No matter what the words to the song
are,
Bobby is definitely PLUMB FULL OF DELISH...sigh!!!
